This large plate of Okudo is almost perfectly square. It is a hard type of suita; most definitely very capable of finishing a straight razor.

This one is a little softer. It’s fast and fine; a great mid-range hone. I’ve experimented with using it as a bevel setter - and it’s possible to do that, but it’s tricky and a bit slower than I’m happy with. All in all - a very versatile stone though.

Okudo Renge Suita
This stone is a kissing cousin to the larger Okudo Suita I own. It behaves nearly identically; the only difference is that there is one or two spots on the top that feel a bit different under the blade. They have no impact on the honing, but the feedback reads those sections clearly. I think they’ll lap out eventually; the feeling was more intense when I first used the stone, but after 4-5 sessions under the DMT lapping plate, that sensation diminished significantly.
This is a relatively hard stone that can be used to finish a razor, but I prefer to use these Suita stones for Nakado, or mid-range honing. I find that they excel for this purpose; their speed and final refinement capabilities are perfect for my needs. They put a killer edge on my kitchen cutlery, so for that task they’re finishers.

Okudo Suita with Matching Tomo

This gorgeous Okudo sees a lot of mid-range action. However - it's also a very capable finisher. When used with a full Mikawa Nagura progression - the post bevel-set and pre-finish stage work is a joy to execute and the stage is well set for a spectacular finish. As a finisher, the edges are very very smooth, and quite keen, albeit not as keen as what one could create with a much harder stone.

The Renge and Yake are very pronounced and I find the combination of those characteristics to make for an outstanding visual presentation. The slurry made with the matching Tomo has a creamy off-white/amber sort of color and it’s quite fast.

This stone does have a good amount of Su but I can say that they have never caused any issues for me.
