This sweet piece of La Verte is, I think, a #8 bout, and it also just happens to be a near-perfect rectangle. This is a stellar shape for what is, in my opinion, a stellar vein of Coticule. The top has an interesting darker patch that becomes more pronounced when wet., and there’s a bit of a reddish hue toward one end also.
While this is not the most spectacular looking slice of Coticule, it is in fact one of the nicer pieces I’ve ever owned. The hardness is good for finishing on water-only laps as well as handling mid-range honing. Anyone would be hard pressed to find another single layer Coticule that is as comprehensive as this one.
