Combination Coticule
This is another vintage stone, thought to possibly be from the Dressante Au Bleu vein. This seems to be a natural Combo; there are obvious waves in the line where the two layers meet.
Like the La Rose, the BBW side feels quite different than what I remember experiencing on modern combo stones. Harder, finer, faster is what I’d say but I’m not much of a BBW user to be honest.
The Coticule side here is lovely – yet imperfect. There are some fissure lines – all of which seem tight and stable though. The lines stand out more when wet, but I don’t feel them under a blade or my nail.
The coloring of the Coticule side shifts from dark amber/gold to a lighter yellow in places. It’s a fairly hard stone, not real hard but definitely not soft.
On slurry, it’s fairly fast but I’d choose a 1k synth to set bevels. The mid-range work goes quickly and water-only laps deliver a mellow keen edge.
