RH Preyda, previously known as Halls Pro Edge, is a well-known producer of quality Arkansas Stones for the sharpening industry. This is their Surgical Black stone; a super-dense and very fine slab of Novaculite that was quarried here in the USA.
The dimensions of the stone are 6x2x0.5”, it is sitting in a silicone sharpening holder, within the wooden box. The presentation is wonderful, the stone holder is useful, and the stone’s performance is on-point.
It is not a translucent stone, but it has similar qualities in ‘feel’ and sharpening performance. The working surface can take a pretty high polish without getting ‘glazed’ and turning into a useless burnishing platform. Lapping this stone was very hard; the wear resistance is very high and even when using SIC powder it was laborious. All in all, this is a very good finisher for straight razors.
But it is a cut from a much different type of material than my other Surgical Black stones.
