Blue Mejiro Nagura
I call this the ‘Blue Mejiro’ because parts of it turn blue when it gets wet. While I am not certain whether or not the coloring is anything more than a visual characteristic, I do note that I’ve had one other Mejiro with the same coloring. Both pieces are exceptionally fine and fast.
This domed slab of Mejiro is hard, fine, fast and the slurry is just a bit ‘granular’ when used on a hard Awasedo. Because it seems to be exceedingly fine, I like to make sure I use Tenjyou Nagura before starting with this one.
This is a fairly large Nagura that was probably cut for commercial use. Its size and heft combine with its somewhat ergonomic shape to provide a very nice advantage when making slurry. An added plus is that it’s large enough to use for dressing down the top of the Honzan.
