Here we have the famous Muhle R41 ‘open comb’ safety razor. The 2011 version was very aggressive; it had a large blade gap and significant blade exposure. I purchased my first R41 in 2009, and it was in fact quite a beast.
This razor here is of the later design, and that legendary aggressiveness was mellowed out significantly. I believe the major change was in a reduced blade exposure.
However, for some reason - the notorious reputation of the 2011 R41 lives on.
These redesigned R41s are NOT very aggressive, and they are NOT any more ‘efficient’ than, say - a Gillette Super Adjustable’ set to 5.
The R41 is a great DE razor, it is made very well, and it is fairly tame with, maybe, a bit more aggressiveness than the average razor
