These photos show the heel of a Wade & Butcher Bow Razor.
Upon arrival, the razor was in seemingly decent condition and only needing to be honed.
On closer inspection, I noted that it had been sharpened to the point where the stabilizer was intruding into the edge. This condition creates what I call a ‘witch’s nose’; visually, the stabilizer winds up sticking out past the cutting edge. This is a common, ugly and occasionally dangerous condition; the only solution is to grind back the stabilizer so it is out of the way.
Here you can see the ‘after’ photos, where the stabilizer is clear of the bevel. Now I can hone this razor normally without tissue. This repair can be rendered invisible by polishing over the grind marks.
