Originally, there were 3 types of Arkansas Stones. The softest were the Washita, or Quachita. The next group, which were a little harder, denser and finer were the ‘Soft Arkansas’ stones. The densest, hardest and finest offerings were all called Hard Arkansas stones. In that last group, we find the Translucent and Surgical Black stones.
