These stones hail from Belgium; they owe their sharpening prowess to tiny Spessartine Garnets. Raising slurry with a smaller piece of Coticule enhances their sharpening capabilities and diluting that slurry slowly allows for methodical edge refinement.
Coticules are favored straight razor hones for a variety of reasons; the two I think are most important are:
1.) The resulting edges are keen, comfortable, smooth and long lasting.
2.) Overhoning on a Coti is virtually impossible.
