Oozuku Asagi of Exceptional Hardness
Here’s a lovely Asagi that’s super hard, very fine, and a joy to hone on.
The bottom is a little uneven, but I didn’t find it difficult to deal with. A damp towel under the stone would solve any concerns though.
The sides and bottom were sealed in 3 layers of lacquer, the top is lapped and the edges have been chamfered.
Honing on this slab of Oozuku goodness is a treat; laser-razor edges can be achieved when the ground work and follow up are executed correctly. It’s a very consistent stone, the scratch patterns are very uniform and the honing feedback is sterling; clear as a bell silky smoothness abounds here. It’s a gem with Mikawa Shiro Nagura as well as just about any Tomo Nagura also.
