Premium 3 Piece Nagura Set
This matched 3-piece set of Asano Stamped Mikawa Shiro Botan, Tenjyou and Mejiro Nagura have been tested repeatedly and regularly across the last 6 months; they’ve work exceedingly well together in a razor honing progression.
The ‘Premium’ designation is my own – I use it to classify matched sets of the larger stones that weigh around 150 g. While the smaller 60/70 g Nagura can have the same performance qualities, I find the larger stones easier to hold, handle and work with. I do think the larger stones are often cut from higher quality stock but this is a subjective point and impossible to prove.
Each stone’s top section has been sealed with Japanese Cashew Lacquer to protect the stamps and help prevent bits of stone from flaking off. This treatment adds some strength and protection for the stone, and it also impedes excessive water ingress.
