Matched and Sealed Nagura Set
Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro and Tomo Nagura.
The tops and sides have been sealed with Cashew Lacquer.
Botan: 5.4 oz / 154 g
All white Botan Nagura seem to be quite scarce. I’ve set more than a few bevels using slurry from this one - it’s a primo piece that’s large enough to last several lifetimes.
Tenjyou - 4.5 oz /129 g
All white - which is a rarity these days. It’s a larger piece too. Like the Mejiro, it produces slurry with some of the granular and pasty feedback.
Mejiro - 5.3 oz / 150 g
This is a larger and very fine Mejiro that can be used to finish with easily. The slurry has some of that pasty sensation which I like but there is also some of the granular feedback too. It’s a beautiful stone that is marbled and striped.
Tomo - 8.6 oz / 243 g
This is a fairly hard and rather large chunk of Nakayama Kiita. It’s unusually hard for a Kiita Tomo, but not super hard. The slurry is very fine with good speed and it keeps on going for a very very long time. On top, you can see, faintly, some sort of Jyun stamp which is fairly unusual on a Tomo Nagura. The bottom is rounded and the Suji lines are completely safe. I just shaved with a wedge that was finished on slurry from this Tomo - all I can say is ‘wow’ - the edge is absolutely spectacular.
