Carborundum Aloxite Brand #200 Razor Hone
This straight razor hone was manufactured by the Carborundum Company, but sold under their Aloxite brand name. This is the #200 razor hone – the instructions indicate that this can be used dry, or ‘if desired’ – with water or lather.
This is a porous stone and it feels light in the hand. It’s a fast cutter when dry – no more than 2-3 passes are needed. After that – when lathered, another 4-5 passes will bring the edge up to max refinement.
When care is taken and good technique is used, this is an extremely effective barber hone. The resulting edge is serviceable off the stone, but a lot of stropping will smooth it out considerably.
